Taking an API for a Walk
"Taking an API for a Walk" is an installation in the Victoria and Albert Museum's new building, the V&A East Storehouse, taking a two-year meandering walk through the whole V&A collection.
The V&A collection's database includes over two million items, and is always growing through acquisitions and donations.
Stefanie's inspiration was an undirected walk (like a "flâneur") which would wander continuously from item to item.
This is an ever-evolving work. It uses the V&A's collections API to continuously expand the space in which it can wander.
The data pipeline was developed in Python, and the frontend powering 8 connected HD displays at 60fps is a progressive web app (PWA) using WebGL.
